Instead of naming a release version of your product as a “beta”, just call it a sample. You know, like those things you get while shopping at a grocery store: a small cup/napkin with a sample of food on it to get you to buy the product. Hmm.
Really now. Telling your visitors/users that your product (however awesome it is) is free and giving them access to all those nifty features before saying, “hey, after this ‘beta’ thing, we’re going to start charging you for all those cool features” is not acceptable. Beta… pft. False advertising to me. I always thought “beta” meant “test release”. You know… in order to get feedback to fix bugs and bad code.
Oh well.
